The Pasadena League of Women Voters will host a public forum tomorrow, Thursday, November 2, 2006, to address the issue of whether the current initiative process serves the public. Election Musings: Are We Being Served? will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon, at the Women’s City Club, 160 N. Oakland Ave., Pasadena.
The press release contains additional details about the forum and the rest of the day’s activities:
Voters facing 13 propositions on the Nov. 7 ballot are asking: Does the initiative process result in good legislation or just money and energy being spent to defeat bad legislation?
That is the question the League of Women Voters Pasadena Area will address at a public forum titled “Election Musings: Are We Being Served?” It will be held Nov. 2, 9:30 a.m. to noon, at the Women’s City Club, 160 N. Oakland Ave., Pasadena.
Initiatives that voters have loved and ones they have hated will be presented for discussion by Chris Carson, LWVC director for government, and a panel of LWVPA members.
After lunch, a representative of the county registrar of voters will demonstrate the new Inka Vote Plus being introduced Nov. 7 that alerts voters to errors they make in marking the ballot and helps visually and hearing-impaired people as well as those with limited English vote without assistance.
An Election Quiz Show will climax the afternoon program. Robbie Davis, a former LWVPA president and now a member of the state board of LWV, will be the emcee.
Admission to the program only is $1. Admission and lunch is $20. For lunch reservations call 626-798-0965. Free parking is available behind the Women’s City Club off Madison Avenue.
