Busy days for winners of City Council election

Posted on Monday 17 April 2006

Don Watts, one of the winners of the recent municipal election for three open City Council seats, said in a telephone interview that the last few days have been busy ones. All the attention is new and will take some getting used to, he said.

“I’m an architect, and I’m used to working very quietly in my office,” Watts said.

But he’s ready to go to work to face the challenges ahead of the new City Council, he said.

“Now it’s time to really start taking a look at the problems the city is having,” he added.

Joe Mosca, another of the three winners, said the last few days have been hectic, but good.

“I’m jumping into it, and I am excited,” he said. Mosca said the challenges facing Sierra Madre are big ones, but they can be tackled and resolved.

Additionally, Mosca said he is looking forward to working with the current City Council Members and the entire City Staff. He said that he’s heard rumors that the newcomers want to come in and “clean house” of current staff.

“That’s ridiculous,” Mosca said. “We want to make sure our city government goes forward in a stable way.”

Kurt Zimmerman was not available for comment.

City Council Reorganization will be held on Tuesday, May 2 at City Hall.
