Press release:

The highlight of the 45th annual Sierra Madre Art Fair is the work of some extremely gifted and talented artists. Patrons visiting this year’s fair will not be disappointed with the varied and contrasting collections offered by almost 100 artists specializing in a variety of mediums: oil, water color, photography, glass, woodworking, ceramics, metal art for the garden, wearable silk art, jewelry.

Memorial Park, the setting for the Fair, is a delightful tree-studded retreat that offers a welcome relief from many area fairs held on hot pavement with little shade. Additional special features will enhance the visit to the Art Fair held in Sierra Madre’s Memorial Park located on Sierra Madre Blvd. between Lima and Hermosa. The dates and hours are: Saturday, May 19, 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 20, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Music and entertainment in the park band shell are scheduled midday on Saturday and Sunday. Charlie Kissinger, local music legend, has arranged for the music. Charlie knows what the public likes. String Planet will appear both Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Performing their Classical Crossover Meets World Beat music, the group includes: Novi Novog viola, Larry Tuttle-Chapman Stick, percussion.

Lisa Finnie, favorite lounge vocalist at Pasadena’s Ritz-Carlton, and the McDuffie Trio: Lisa Finnie, vocal, guitar; John McDuffie guitar will present classic ballads and show tunes on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Benny Brydern Hot Strings Duo brings the gypsy swing sound in the tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stefane Grapelli’s Hot Club of France circa 1934-39, Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m. String duo members are: Benny Brydern violin and John Reynolds guitar.

What better way to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon savoring fine art, enjoying the specialties of talented area musicians and lunching or snacking on some ethnic or American-style fair cuisine.

Don’t miss the Sierra Madre Art Fair Saturday, May 19, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 20, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Sierra Madre Library, enriching the programs, services and collection.
