The following is a press release from Webb-Martin Realtors about the pie baking contest during the upcoming Centennial Lawn Party on June 23 and June 24:

Webb-Martin Invites Local Bakers to Roll Out the Dough
Sierra Madre, CA - Calling all bakers! Starch your aprons, sift the flour and get ready to find out if your crust makes the cut in the first ever Pie Baking Contest sponsored by Webb-Martin Realtors.

As the city of Sierra Madre continues to enjoy a full calendar year of Centennial events celebrating the year of incorporation of the foothill village, Webb-Martin Realtors is inviting everyone to a play date in the park for its Centennial Lawn Party, Sat., June 23 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Memorial Park, 222 W. Sierra Madre Blvd.

In the spirit of old-fashioned fun, Webb-Martin is hosting a pie baking contest as part of the party. Entries will be judged by Peter Dills, food reviewer and host of “The Chef Knows”, Pat Krok, local food expert and accomplished food contest judge, and Enid Joffe, mayor of Sierra Madre.

Prizes and ribbons will be handed out to the winners. Then the whole crowd will get a chance to purchase slices and sample the sweet treats. Proceeds from the sales will be donated to support local civic activities and organizations.

The lawn party is open to the public and Webb-Martin is hoping everyone will join in the fun of an early 20th century day in the park. To truly send everyone back in time, folks are encouraged to dress in all-white costumes from the early 1900s – all the better to play croquet, badminton, horseshoes, and tennis. Just bring your own rackets! And ladies don’t forget your hats and parasols. Guests can being a picnic lunch to tide them over until the pie is ready to be sliced.

The contest is open to all, even those living beyond Sierra Madre’s borders, but the pies have to be homemade and everyone must register ahead of time. Registration information can be collected at the Webb-Martin Realtors office at 30 N. Baldwin Ave. in Sierra Madre. For more information call 626-355-2384.
