This is the contents of an e-mail that came through at 10:12 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23 from Chief of Police Marilyn Diaz:
All of your Sierra Madre public safety officials, police, fire, paramedics, and search and rescue, are on high alert due to the fires. We have closed Bailey Canyon, Mt. Wilson Trail, and Santa Anita Ave. to Chantry Flats to motorists and hikers due to the fire danger. Though as of Tuesday, October 23rd, there have been no fires in the San Gabriel foothills, residents should coordinate with their families, loved ones and neighbors in the event that they have to evacuate, communicate, and survive for up to seven days. Canyon residents need to be especially vigilant due to the heavy brush and narrow, winding roads.
