The swearing-in of the newly-elected City Council Members was originally scheduled for May 2.

But, in an unprecedented shake-up at the April 18 meeting, a small number of townspeople asked for the new members to be sworn in ahead of schedule.

Because the new Council members took office earlier than scheduled, the outgoing City Council Members left without recognition of their service. Additionally, City Council Member John Buchanan was chosen as presiding officer until the Council could officially reorganize and chose a Mayor and a Mayor Pro Tem.

According to the May 2 agenda, the City Council will move forward with plans to make a presentation to the outgoing City Council Members Mayor George A. Maurer, outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Tonja Torres and outgoing Council Member Robert A. Stockly.

A recent Pasadena Star-News article suggested that the outgoing City Council Members will not be at the reorganization, but there is no official word about this from City Hall.

Following the presentation there will be ceremonial oaths of office for the incoming City Council Members Joseph Mosca, Kurt Zimmerman and Donald Watts.

Then the City Council will select the new Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem.

This will be followed by Public Comment, after which the meeting will adjourn to a reception in Council Chambers.

A group of residents has also planned a reception to honor Maurer, Stockly and Torres to be held on May 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Pritchard Hall in the Sierra Madre Congregational Church, 170 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. For more information, see the inSierraMadre.com community calendar.

Regular business will occur at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, May 9.
