Jan Reed said banner sales are going well. So far, 6 of the 14 banners priced at $1000 have sold, and 6 of the 40 banners priced at $500 have sold. Reed said people should buy their banners soon, before they sell out. She also encouraged local organizations to develop Centennial-related events and to have them added to the Centennial calendar that will be sent to Sierra Madre homes. For more information about the banner sale, read the press release.

Action Item:
City Council unanimously voted to adopt a modified version of the Elections and Appointments section of the Volunteer Fire Department Rules and Regulations. Mayor John Buchanan, Council Member Enid Joffe and Fire Chief Roger Lowe all said they were pleased with the collaborative process used to hammer out the rules.

Discussion:
Council Member Zimmerman proposed that City Council vote on a resolution at its next meeting to put the Downtown Specific Plan, when it is complete, on a city-wide ballot.

City attorney Michael Colantuono and Mayor John Buchanan both pointed out that it might be premature to place this item on the June 13 agenda because the City Council is already scheduled to review the DSP in a joint meeting with the Planning Commission on June 20. According to Colantuono, Council could entertain the possibility of a municipal election – among other possibilities – during the June 20 meeting as part of the discussion of the DSP’s future.

Council Members Joe Mosca and Don Watts backed Zimmerman, giving the proposal the three voices necessary to add the resolution to the next City Council agenda.

During their campaigns, Mosca, Watts and Zimmerman all favored putting the DSP to a city-wide vote.
