Thursday after school at Sierra Madre’s own Youth Activity Center, a group of helmeted skateboarders were trying out the new skate ramps.
YAC coordinator Alexis Braun said that young people at the center were involved in fund-raising efforts and that the YAC’s “back yard area is perfect” for the new ramps.

All the skaters agreed that it’s good to have an opportunity to skate away from cars, where it’s safer. Additionally, they must sign a waiver and must use proper safety equipment, like a helmet, at all times.
While the skaters said that it would be nice to have more ramps and perhaps some rails to do tricks, they agreed that it’s good to have a conveniently-located place to skate after school.
“They’re pretty cool because we don’t have any other skate ramps anywhere around Sierra Madre,” said Sierra Madre resident and skate ramp user Zach Trevino. “There’s not really anywhere else to skate. The ramps are cool because you can do a lot of different tricks on them.”
The ramps will be open at the same time as the Youth Activity Center, which is located in Sierra Vista Park.
